Pilonidal cysts are a significant health problem for patients in their teens, twenties and thirties. This is a disease process that always manifests itself in or around the crease in the buttocks (gluteal crease, or natal cleft). It can start as a small cyst with a lump that is slightly tender and firm. As time goes by it can cause painful infections (abscess), create tunnels off to the side (sinus tract), cause enlarged pores or even open wounds deep in the crease.
There are many different ways to treat this which vary all the way from just applying antiseptics and hoping it will resolve, all the way to reconstructive surgery. Unfortunately, most physicians and surgeons are not very well educated in treating this, and patients often get bad advice and failed operations.
At our clinic we specialize in taking care of this problem with an operation called a cleft-lift. This removes the cyst or sinus and reshapes the cleft, so this does not become a recurring problem. Because of our high success rate, we have patients traveling to our clinic in Wisconsin from all over the US and Canada for surgery. We review photos and medical history with you online, and schedule surgery and consultation during a single trip to our city. Contact us today!
